As far as LGBT issues are concerned, perhaps indeed his silence on the matter will be detrimental to the progress of human rights in Belarus, but I applaud Mr Westerwelle for his silence on the matter because the White Russian comment was personal while on his trip he is the representative of the German Government, and he made the ultimate personal sacrifice (his own dignity) for the interests of the German Government in dealing with White Russia.

He's just mad because he's president of Belarus. Most Americans don't even know where that is.

My school is doing a fundraiser for belarus. I want my £1 back :icon_mad:.

Just kidding- overall I can't say I'm too suprised. I vaugely remember being told that eastern europe isn't at all accepting of homosexuality. This still sucks though.

I hope you're not suggesting that if Americans don't know where a country is that it matters less. Because I don't have much faith in general American public's knowledge of World geography.

I was just being facetious, I would hardly gauge a country's importance by America's standards.

not all americans are like sarah palin, and has to be told there is a north korea and a south korea, and that africa is a continient, so she needs to stop refering to it as a country.

I would expect more decency from a President, even if it does go against your personal views, it's shameless for a country's leader to act like that to a foreign official.

    Maybe Hetalia was right...
