I have said it before, and I will no doubt say it again in the future, but when you look at the stranglehold rules of the mormon church, and its historyand the practices that they have taken apart of, one word comes to mind consistantly for me: CULT.

Wow, they even prohibit tea and coffee. What, did God get turned away at Starbucks?

It's ridiculous. They had a real chance at winning the national championship this year, and now that's all ruined. Not that I mind seeing BYU lose...

I can't imagine how pissed of his teammates have to be.

Yeah that part confused me. Personally I'm addicted to tea, that's my addiction, so not being able to have tea? It'd kill me :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

It's because they contain tannin. I dated a mormon girl when i was younger... imagine my shock upon offering her a cup 'o' tea

[edit] i don't think they're big on caffeine either

Ahhhh the &@$%#£+ honor code... Everyone on campus hates it to death (well most everyone anyways). Here in Idaho, the rules are taken further than the Provo campus. We're not even allowed to wear shorts or have long hair (although I've found loopholes, and this is probably a rule in Provo as well).

I disagree with the honor code and think they are a bit extreme. Like the basketball coach said that he knew what he was getting into when he enrolled in BYU. Even his teamates agreed he should have been kicked off the team for the violation.

That being said, I do give the university credit by not giving him a pass. So many colleges and universities give their star athletes a pass so it does not hurt their programs. BYU was #3 in the nation for men's basketball and was heading to be a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Now they are going to take a hit in the rankings. This could cost the university a lot of money.

Actually, my understanding is that coffee and tea, as well as alcohol and tobacco, are simply prohibited in their scripture or teachings or something. They speculate that caffeine or tannin may be the reason for the prohibition on coffee and tea, and some of them therefore avoid caffeinated drinks of other kinds as well, but coffee and tea are specifically prohibited, without an actual explanation being given. (I looked it up on an official Mormon website once, I forget why.)
