i thought that was always their definition... You're allowed to think it, but doing it is bad. Pretty backward.

Hrm to me it's a double standard. I hate it when they say we can be ourselves but not act on it. And it's like, so you can have premarital sex and all that, but we have to be celibate?

At least it's a step forward from "We hate you no matter what."

Part of me wants to believe it.
Part of me reads it as "we want to know where you are".

honestly i view it like this "gays are cool but same sex actions are equivalent to sex before marriage or with contraception" as all of those things are considered immoral or wrong.

Well, I agree with this part. I've felt a lot things about being gay, but shame is one I always refused to feel.

I still can't understand what you guys want. "Equality" is something utopic, not going to be reached within the next two thousand years, at least not in the religious spheres.

I then don't understand what's the problem you people seem to be having with their stance against HATE (homosexual persons “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity") when compared to those who are really, really screwed up (Phelps and WBC, many other religious, churches, beliefs and organizations).

Premarital sex is frowned upon by the Catholic Church. I don't know what sources you have that state that they're OK with it. Just because a bunch of -you- practice it doesn't make it OK.

We could then add, taking marriage advice from people who aren't married? I agree with this, however they're not giving you sex advice (they're not saying "how to put a condom" or "10 positions to make your partner reach nirvana), they're saying how the community should act towards reaching our goal, heaven.

I also find the sarcasm unnecessary. When you compare the percentage of the members of the cleric who have committed some sort of pedophile act with those who live a correct, honorable life, we end up with a very, very, very small percentage. It would be a big stereotype, like saying "all gays have aids!" or "all lesbians have manly features". Just because some of them are pedophiles, doesn't mean all of them are, and because one out of over a thousand is guilty, doesn't mean all of them are.

They don't expect you to act "straight", they expect you to live a morally-correct life.

DISCLAIMER: While I don't agree 100% with what the Catholic Church states about the correct lifestyle of an LGTB person, I think they deserve some recognition because they're not sending us to hell. Actually they're letting each and every individual to choose their destiny which is basically what God gave humans when we were gifted with "free will".
In my honest opinion, I think there has to be someone who brings up the subject in the Vatican about how the Bible is not being interpreted correctly, and that a lot of important cultural and social factors are not taking into consideration when they preach about verses in Leviticus or Corinthians. I think any LGTB couple should live a life with the same "laws" as the heterosexual couple have within the Church. At the end, I think it's what God wants: true, real, respectful, monogamous love between two people.

they're out of touch with reality. they need to drop the whole 'moral authority' nonsense when it comes to sex.

Ah, if only that were true. Where they have influence, the Catholic hierarchy gets involved in every attempt by gay people to get equal rights, not just marriage but oftentimes basic protections. They can talk the good talk about showing respect and compassion, but when it comes down to it they absolutely want to dictate our destiny, no matter if we are Catholics or not.

it's not just leviticus and the old testament that preaches against homosexuality.

    Romans 1:26-32 (new testament)

Yeah i know, i just don't by the 'it's not homophobic, it's misinterpreted' line.

This can still be used with the lines you quoted, but thats a whole other argument.

I don't agree with this, but something is better than nothing right now. There are also other catholic bishops that are accepting of homosexuality and are trying to make change happen.
