Only months out from one of their most successful elections in state history, Iowa Republicans already are looking forward to the next contest and a chance to oust Senate Majority Leader Michael Gronstal.

The Democrat from Council Bluffs has served in the Legislature for 30 years, but it's his recent stand on gay marriage that has drawn the ire of Republican leaders and activists.

"The majority leader of the Senate needs to go, period," said Ryan Rhodes, one of the founders of the tea party movement in Iowa.

Chuck Hurley, head of the conservative Iowa Family Policy Center, agreed, calling Gronstal's election defeat "a very, very high priority. It's our top issue...
