I don't know whether this is a good or a bad thing. It would make it much easier for ISPs to do a blanket ban on anything with a .gay top level domain. Would there be any enforcement for the new TLDs; e.g. would this site have to change to a .gay because of it's content? If not, what's to stop non-LGBT sites from having a .gay TLD? Is the content reviewed (impossible because it can easily be changed)? There are lots of sites that should have .org or .net instead of .com, for example.
That's a terrible idea. We're so different we want our own top domains .xxx has already been approved, i can see the reasoning for THAT .gay seems really unwise
I think it's a terrible idea. Sure, all the popular .com names are taken--but so what? New top level domains are meant to create more room. If you created Amazon.gay, that would just confuse people. The ones approved a few years ago: .biz, .info, .tv are, in my opinion, horrible. Anytime I see a .biz for a companies website, I think of "cheeeeeap" and possible scam. The other two are just as bad in my view. .gay? No. Just, no. I'm on the fence about .xxx, too. I don't think it's necessary, but I don't think it would be a bad idea.
In the end, it's mostly a money grab. .xxx is not going to serve any useful purpose, because existing adult sites will not be required to change, and if ISPs block .xxx, there will still be plenty of ones in com, net, org, and info. .gay *could* have benefit if used as an informational resource... it might be easy to find things like support services or other things that the gay community would make use of, but something tells me it will become a ghetto for hook-up sites and porn.
