How is someone's opinion of Glee make sense as a 'LGBT News, Rights, Issues and Equality' thread?

Because it's referring Glee, something that many gay people enjoy because of its openness and such, to HIV. Basically one again could be calling something artistic or gay related to a disease once known as the "gay disease"

how does hiv 'puddle'? I highly doubt you could gather enough of the virus to form a 'puddle'.

    That metaphor does not work!

That isn't what he's saying though. I think the offensiveness here is people instantly thinking that he's referring to the homoness (couldn't think of a better way to put it) of the show when he's clearly just saying the show is infectious and bad. He isn't making a homophobic remark here at all. He just doesn't like the show.

is it just me, or those this smack of a publicity stunt?

I would expect a published writer to be able to form a better metaphor, because puddle of hiv is just that lame. it almost seems like a joke, or he is just trying to draw attention to himself...

... of course, that seems to be a big element of twittering itself: drawing attention to oneself.

well and... it's not like the show promotes random promiscuous sex like, maybe, Queer as Folk or the old MTV show Undressed or maybe Skins. Other than the fact that the show is the gayest thing on television, I think it promotes a pretty wholesome view of the world that's about responsibility and is pretty anti-drug and anti-promiscuity.

I'm inclined to agree with Emberstone. I think the guy is just trying to stir up some controversy for himself.

the gay plot lines are only a small part of the show. However, it is the most relevant to what is happening in todays society, so of course, it will get alot of attention.

but this is just a rediculous way to go about slamming glee.

The most disappointing thing about those comments is that Bret Easton Ellis is openly bisexual/queer. Why is he making homophobic remarks all of a sudden?

I think he was thinking more along the lines of:

Glee = bad, with gay associations
HIV = bad, with gay associations
    Therefore Glee = HIV

From how I read it, the guy's not so much homophobic as anti-Glee.

Don't forget that the same happened with that gay writer who criticized John Groff, Sean Hayes, etc that they couldn't play straight characters properly.

well, that was more of a issue of someone making blanket statements that all gay men can only act gay. it was making the assumption that there really is a 'acting gay'. it was basically saying that gay men should only play stereotypes.
