Jackson, PUSH deny firing man for being gay

A former employee of Rev. Jesse Jackson filed a complaint against him and his civil rights organization, alleging that he experienced discrimination because he is gay.

In the complaint filed with the Chicago Commission on Human Relations, Tommy Bennett of Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood accuses his former co-workers of mocking and harassing him because of his orientation. The complaint says that his superiors did nothing to rectify the situation when he complained.

Bennett, who worked for Rainbow PUSH from 2007-2009, also alleges that Jackson made him complete demeaning tasks as Jackson’s travel assistant and was eventually laid off because he is gay.

Rev. Jesse Jackson and Rainbow PUSH filed a joint response with the commission and issued a statement saying its leaders “unequivocally deny Tommy Bennett’s false claims of harassment, retaliation and discrimination...

I think it is illogical that groups that have been vocal supporters of LGBT americans (even when it was unpopular to hold that view), would fire a person for being gay. I think this is just someone who didnt do their job, and was fired for their preformance, turning around and trying to concoct away to get revenge.
