Lynne Featherstone has stated that a consultation on same-sex civil marriage is happening, which Clegg has already said he supports. Cameron says he supports it too, but we'll have to see if he's all talk when that issue pops up for a vote. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Saying that, you just know Scotland will beat us on this issue. They're usually the country that drags along the rest of the UK on LGBT issues, such as their repeal of Section 28 before Parliament had the guts to get it done. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Can Scotland move ahead of the rest of the United Kingdom on this? I know there is a different legal system there.

Aye, marriage and civil partnership law is devolved to the Scottish parliament.

However, that does mean that any same-sex couples would only be married in Scotland. If they left they'd just have their marriage recognised as a Civil Partnership because of the laws in the rest of UK.

In this case it would be best for Scotland to work alongside Westminster so that a marriage remains a marriage. I think it would kick the Lib Dems and Labour into action if Scotland did do anything, so it would likely come down to Cameron and whether his 'consultation' was a serious pledge.
