I posted this link in another thread yesterday but at the time, the site was down, so I felt that it was important to re-post now that it's up again.

If you voted Liberal/NDP/Green/Bloc, PLEASE visit this site! The only way to keep the Conservative majority government in check now is to make sure they know that the 60% of us who did NOT vote for them will demand to have our voices heard on the issues that are important to us. It takes seconds to send an e-mail, and the more e-mails sent, the more they will pay attention.

Leadnow | We are the Majority.

Also please share on FB, Twitter, blogs etc. THANK YOU!!

***I'm posting this in LGBT News, Rights etc. because it IS an LGBT issue! Stephen Harper has made no secret of how he feels about same-sex marriage, the Cons would abolish the Human Rights Commission if they felt they could get away with it, and bill C-389 (protecting the rights of transgendered people) is now in danger of dying in Parliament.***

Bill C-389 is dead. All pieces of legislation die on the Order Table when the Writ is issued and an election is called by the Governor-General.

Also, Human Rights Commissions are becoming a threat to justice in our country. Their investigations of alleged hate speech is causing the innocent to be found guilty, its procedures regarding admissibility of evidence is greatly flawed and allegations of improper behaviour by investigators is frankly disgusting. Should they be abolished? Probably, the either way reforms are badly needed. They are a blemish on the Canadian justice system.

Also, it is important to note that in March 2011, Stephen Harper had this line added to the Canadian Citizenship Guide, "Canada’s diversity includes gay and lesbian Canadians, who enjoy the full protection of and equal treatment under the law, including access to civil marriage".

Prime Minister Stephen Harper won a clear majority government in monday's election. The only way to keep a government in check is the Opposition Parties and the Media.

An email campaign is a nice idea but I think the best way to show your support is to get involved. Volunteer and join a political party.

I don't know what you mean by "added" considering that it was added to the guide that the harper government released themselves, after having had it removed from the last edition.
And by the way, 93 out of 98 members of the conservative party voted against legalizing same-sex marriage. And furthermore, 110 out of 124 voted to try to undo it after they came to power. Including Stephen Harper both times.

The NDP intends to reintroduce it now that the election is over.

The HRC may not be perfect, but abolishing it is not the solution.

The Immigration Minister (not Stephen Harper) grudgingly reduced a paragraph on gay rights down to one sentence after being criticized for initially removing it entirely from the document.

Harper won a majority of SEATS with far less than a majority of VOTES. There is nothing "clear" about this dysfunctional electoral system. The opposition parties and the media keep the government in check by influencing public opinion. If this government forces through legislation which is unpopular with the MAJORITY who did NOT vote for them, they will feel the backlash in the next election. This e-mail campaign is one way of letting them know that we are paying attention.

Agreed, but not everyone has the time or inclination to do so. This is one small action that can be taken, that takes seconds.

If you don't want to sign it, then don't sign it. The link is up there for those who do.
