I saw this on one of my friends Facebook page... Hadn't heard about it until now.

    All Out

Apparently they are trying to pass a bill in Uganda to make homosexuality penalized by the death sentence. What is wrong with people these days?

Anyhow, the link is where you can sign the petition to veto the bill. Just thought I would pass it along

Saw it yesterday. Signed and re posted as my FB status.

It sucks for people over there. Hope this helps even a little, but we'll see. The people fighting over there for equal rights have some incredible courage. I don't know if I could be out if I were them.

I saw it on facebook yesterday, and reposted when I was back on my computer, as my phone doesn't let me.

    Signed, obviously.

Signed and put on FB. But I bet they won't sign it. The 'couldn't be bothered' excuse.

People... I cant stand em. Any of them. I hope this goes well for us though. Its one thing fighting for countries to start accepting us, but completely another when they go backwards.

I hate to say it, but for the most part, this is indicative of northern and central africal. There are some countries in africa who progess forward, but uganda is well known for its penchant for fuckery.

Maybe someone knows, but isn't there some kind of international law that makes this illegal?

I believe it may only be in the civilized countries, unfortunately.

Aside from that, I don't have a facebook, so I only just got wind of it here. I have this thing about 'not following the crowd' and all, and I really just don't want one. I end up missing out because of it.

Yes, but I think it's up to individual countries whether or not they recognise it. I didn't look that up so I may be wrong about that......

There certainly is, but the problem with international law is that it's very difficult to enforce.

UN resolutions aren't like US Federal Law, or EU legislation, where you can simply strike down a law if you can show at a higher court that it contradicts the Constitution or Treaties.

I don't think there is. I vaguely recall that there was a big fight in the UN a few months ago because Obama wanted to insert LGBT protections into the U.N human rights resolution but the Middle-Eastern and African countries overruled it I think.

The only thing I could find was a declaration. It hasn't been adopted, so it isn't law, and even if it was it would be next to impossible to enforce. Sanctions are practically the only way to punish countries that break international laws.

What makes this even worse is that it was pretty much kick-started by a group from the United States that went over there. Rachel Maddow did a bunch of reporting on it that you can google (I'm doing this on my phone so I can't link to anything). The whole situation is absolutely disgusting.
