As i was doing research for a paper about equality, I found a problem with our school filter. Almost every page relating to lgbtq rights was blocked. When "lesbian rights" is typed in, everything is blocked becuase "lesbian" is a forbidden search. So is bisexual. However, the words "gay" and "heterosexual" are not blocked. Also, many gay rights pages are blocked, even though there is no inappropriate material. The worst part is, no one I talk to cares, from many other students, to the administration. When I asked my principal why these words were blocked he said he "could think of plenty of reasons why they should be blocked" and would not elaborate any more than to say that it was sexual. When I referenced our anti-discrimination code that promises no discrimination because of sexual orientation, he said that it was not discrimination. How can the school legitimately block an entire identity? It's not that a sexual orientation is something inappropriate, after all "heterosexual" isn't blocked. I was disturbed and offended; I shared this with the hope that someone else cares.

I’ve posted several item about the ACLU fighting this type of censorship, if you want you could try contacting them. I’m not sure how large your school is but it’s entirely possible they are operating the filtering software out of the box and it came that.

I assume you go to a public school if you go to a private school what I posted doesn’t apply.
