I live in Spartanburg, and this comes to absolute NO surprise to me.

What they should have done was declare it something more broad, like a simple Love Day or something. Something to include straight people in as well.

It's as good of an excuse as any to pop some bottles and throw on a wig.

The good news though is that in their little poll off to the side, almost 60% of the voters said it should be declared LGBT day. The council said no one would have supported it. They're obviously wrong and/or lying.

I was reading the comments on their site and a lot of them are so asinine though. You inevitably always see people complaining, "Where's the heterosexual pride day?" When I was really young I always used to ask my mom why mothers and fathers had their own day but kids didn't have one. She told me that everyday is kid's day. 'Heterosexual pride' day is no different than that to me. What's so wrong with celebrating our differences?

I don't know, sounds like a nice idea... Although, I'm afraid, the very people who ask this would squeal in terror if they ever see a heterosexual pride parade for real. I mean... People? On the streets? Celebrating sexuality? Oh my, those pinko communist pothead atheist Muslim hippies are back! Pray and get out the tear-gas!

I wouldn't say "no one" in Spartanburg would support it...just not very many....and this should come as no shock at all. One thing you have to keep in mind is that South Carolina is one of the most (if not THE most) conservative state(s) in the country...and the Upstate (where S'burg is) is even more conservative. Spartanburg hasn't evolved as much as it's neighboring county of Greenville, so I don't think this will go any where any time soon.

Thank-you for stating what I'm sure many of us are thinking. Love Day sounds just like another name for Valentine's
