Duluth rally protests gay marriage amendment

Waving a rainbow flag and carrying signs that said "Don’t legislate hate" and "Did anyone get to vote on your marriage?" opponents of a state constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage rallied in Duluth Monday afternoon.

About 50 people gathered at the intersection of Superior Street and Lake Avenue to quietly protest legislative action on the amendment. A larger rally was held at the Capitol in St. Paul.

Many passing drivers at one of Duluth’s busier intersections honked their support and flashed peace signs or thumbs-up.

“This is a rally in support of marriage equality for all people,” said John Pegg of Duluth. “We shouldn’t be legalizing discrimination right in our state constitution...

Amazing when people are ready to stand up for what is right. Even better knowing that there are others who will voice their support, whether it's by protesting, or by just a simple honk of the horn and a positive hand gesture.
