A former Memphis police officer was sentenced to two years in federal prison Tuesday for beating a transgender prisoner and for evading taxes between 2004 and 2008.

Under the plea agreement with prosecutors, Bridges Sutton McRae also must pay back taxes of $18,871.

"I'm just ready to get this behind me and get on with my life," said McRae, who will be assigned to a federal prison in about six weeks.

He pleaded guilty to violation of civil rights resulting in bodily injury of transgender prisoner Dwayne "Duanna" Johnson, who was being booked into the Shelby County Jail in February 2008 after being arrested by McRae for prostitution...
