The Atlanta Police Department says the agency is revising some of its policies in keeping with the settlement of a federal lawsuit following a September 2009 raid on a gay bar.

The city signed a contract last month hiring two consultants to conduct mandatory, in-person training of all sworn employees as required by the settlement. The training will take place between June 1 and Sept. 1.

In the Sept. 10, 2009 incident, patrons and employees claimed they were detained and forced to lie on the barroom floor for as long as an hour while officers checked for criminal histories and made homosexual slurs. Charges against the employees were dismissed or dropped. The court gave the city until June 27 to produce results of an internal police investigation of the raid.
