If there is someone else in the county who can issue the lisence (more than one clerk maybe?), just have them do it. Let's not keep blowing this up. If there is only one person who can do this duty and they have particular opposition, then they need to find another position and someone else can have their job.

On the other hand, if those in opposition don't have a problem with divorced people, couples living together and having sex, or other couples who would not be married in their church, then that's typical hypocrisy and should be discussed in the full public forum.

Let them answer to us the public how they can perform their duty for these other "sinful" couples and not the gay couple.

clerks, like all state goverment employees, take a oath to uphold the state's laws without question... they take a oath to put aside their own agenda and serve the law...

It is NOT our fault that they refuse to do their job by clinging to their self-chosen intolerences like an evengelical 12 year old boy clings to his penis under the covers when he thinks his parents are asleep, and wont beat him for 'beating' himself.

I don't know this could be because the bible clearly states that homosexuality is a crime punishable by death.

I think the problem they have is that gay sex is outlawed by the bible. The problem I have is that lots of other stuff is outlawed almost in the same breath and those angry types don't seem to bother campaigning against them (off the top of my head I seem to remember clothes made of two different types of material and touching a menstruating woman). But hey, that's the human way, find a reason (however pathetic) to justify your prejudices (however stupid). Unfortunately religion is a golden reason to discriminate against LGBT etc people because, ridiculously, our so-called 'progressive' societies let them get away with it all too often.

The real issue here is that if you don't do your job, you get fired. These clerks came out and said they wouldn't do their job. Hiring someone else to do the homosexual marriage licenses for them would cost too much. The government is much better off firing the clerks who refuse to their job and hiring someone who will.

besides, these clerks are choosing to resign on their own volition.

Well, technically, but they were probably asked to step down. People in public offices are rarely publicly fired. Giving them the chance to resign is just a nice way of letting them fall with grace, so they're not judged harshly by the community they used to serve. Schools usually do the same thing with teachers.
