The split on the survey is rather telling, isn't it? Majority wins in every location except for "Conservative Republican," "White Evangelical Protestant," and "Catholic (weekly churchgoers)." Plus, the last category is at 48-48, so that's a nice development, considering the official stance of the Catholic church.

everybody knows someone who's gay nowadays, its a lot harder to hate something that you have personal experience with, especially if its someone close to you like family.

knowing someone who is gay doesnt necessarily always mean you grow more accepting. look at people like bachmann, santorum, palin, and other far right lunatic wing nuts. they always say that 'they have gay friends', but are still deeply homophobic, hatefilled, and determined to keep LGBT people from being treated equally. Of course, you tend to doubt they actually have gay friends, because what kind of gay person would want a raging homophobe whos trying to destroy their right to equality as their friend?

it would be like being jewish and trying to be friends with a neo-nazi.
