    Christian MP Fred Nile is setting a bad example by being a stupid fuckwit.

    Anyway, now that that's out of the way, congratulation to Penny Wong. Hopefully Julia Gillard won't be voted back in as Prime Minister and then Penny and her partner will be allowed to get married (and then hopefully NZ would follow their lead and make same-sex marriage legal as well).

    Well the interesting thing is that most state Labor parties have endorsed same-sex marriage. The national conference is coming up at the end of the year and I'm guessing it will be endorsed there. That will be interesting for Gillard; whether she listens to her party and the majority of Australians who support same-sex marriage, or goes against them for nobody knows what reason. You can't predict what she's going to do, nobody knows what she stands for anymore. Not that the alternative is any better - Australian politics is a joke at the moment, but that's a completely different debate.

    Also I'm not sure what it's like in NZ, but in Australia party discipline is pretty tight, if you say something against your party's stated policy you're in the shit. I remember an interview with Penny Wong where she was forced to say she was not in favour of same-sex marriage, or she supported her party in being against same-sex marriage, as it would be pretty bad for her career if she went against the party line. That's politics for you.
