Rep Hinkle will not Resign even after Encounter with 18yo

INDIANAPOLIS -- Nearly two weeks after an embarrassing scandal that left his political career hanging in limbo, Indiana Rep. Phil Hinkle, R-Indianapolis, told 6News he's still trying to piece together an explanation for what he called out-of-character behavior.

The Indianapolis Star reported last week that Hinkle engaged in a rendezvous with an 18-year-old man at a downtown hotel after online conversations.

The newspaper's report claimed that Hinkle met with a man who posted an ad on Craigslist in search of a "suga daddy." The paper reported that there was a promise of an exchange of money but that no sexual encounter occurred.

In an interview with 6News' Norman Cox on Wednesday, Hinkle admitted that he did arrange to meet the man and pay him $80, but that he did not intend for it to be a sexual encounter.
