If you're in prison for murder, of course the state's not going to pay for something like that. Nor should it.

Why shouldn't it? It's valid medically, ain't it?

This girl's gonna get the shit knocked out of her in men's prision.

I'm not well-versed in what's allowed for prisoners, but I'd imagine it's life-saving procedures only.

I dont think that the state should be forced to pay for reassignment surgery, as it is not a life of death surgery. I think it would be wise for her own safety to be moved into a women's prison, but not the surgery.

Taking the taxpayer into account, that would probably be a sensible solution.

Or just section off transgender inmates or put them in their own small prisions. I always wondered why they never bothered with that one. =p

I don't know what to think.

I don't think criminals should have many entitlements but I don't think anyone deserves that sort of mental anguish.

I agree with this. It is a waste of taxpayer money. I barely agree with murderers and rapists getting organ transplants, much less elective surgery.

When she gets out of prison and gets a job, then she can use the money he/she earns and pay for the surgery.

Just like everybody else who decides not to murder other people has to.
