I love this story. Really. Here's more:

Superintendent ‘furious’ over threats to lesbian couple voted homecoming royalty

It's terrible that they are getting threats--but awesome that the superintendent is responding this way.

Def...but in reference to the couple, no offense but I think it should just be two queens. I kinda just don't like the idea of King and Queen to lesbians. But that's just my opinion, it's like a gay male couple being crowned King and Queen, it should be two Kings...

    Aw, they're so cute. ^^

I don't care about the title King for a female, I'm just glad she got recognition and that their classmates were supportive of them.

True. Sorry guys I know it's up to how the person feels. It's only my personal opinion, and if they're fine with it then that's fine. Regardless, good for them

I think this is sad :frowning2: The kids picked them for a reason and that reason isn't what everyone seems to think it is :-(

hi people who are a bit upset about the gender

are you equally upset that the recipients aren't actual monarchs? bc so far as i'm aware monarchs aren't usually elected and patrick henry high school isn't actually a sovereign state.

My only concern is that it perpetuates the stereotype that gay couples have one "male-acting" and one "female-acting" counterpart, as in "who is the man in your relationship?"
But it's adorable and wonderful and it makes me happy.

That actually happened shortly before this did. I don't really care what any of them call themselves, but the really strange thing was Queerty's double standard.

They had an article saying they didn't approve of it when it was two guys, but then when this story came out with two girls, they loved it. They even acknowledged their double standard in the article, but never really explained why it's different for two guys and two girls. Look here:

Well, they were both wearing dresses. This is good. I didn't realise america contained few enough homophobes to win something like that.

Oh my god, I remember this story! I cried, it made me so happy when I read it for the first time. I thought "gee, maybe someday I could be a Homecoming King!" :::: ))
