Your right, the one person who keeps their resolution and it had to be him. It's strange saying this, but I guess it's good that he is gone.
He may have died, but the thing that killed those men hasn't died. This man was just a disturbed, dumb sap most likely with PTSD. Maybe he let himself feel remorse for it at some point. I hope he found that peace. The real killer of those men lives on, and this man's death didn't do anything to stop it.
What you're describing is psychopathy. Someone with "a lack of empathy or remorse, false emotions, selfishness, grandiosity or deceptiveness," that's who makes a New Year's resolution to become a serial killer.
I find the part where he "posed as a homosexual to be taken to each of his victims' homes" just as disturbing as the fast that his new year's resolution was to become a serial killer.
