its not that it is grossly outdated, it was never legitimate or valid, because it has been shown both time and time again to be dangerous, but also impossible.

I found the text to the bill here: Bill Text - SB-1172 Sexual orientation change efforts.

I would suggest changing/considering the following:

865.1 - should change the statement? say Having a lesbian, gay, or bisexual sexual ortiention IS NOT VIEWED AS a mental disorder BY LEADING MEDICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATIONS. There is no scientific evidence that any types of..."

865.2 c) - does this include religious? should include something to exempt religious
pressures?

They need to carefully explain what they mean by duress or coercion. Do they mean parental threats? Religious consequences?

I think it is, overall, a good idea. And it DOES risk infringing on religious freedoms, if they include religious consequences as a form of coercion, but if they don't... then all it is really doing is protecting children and young people from fanatical parents, and properly warning any adult who seeks sexual orientation change therapies that 1. this probably won't work and 2. this is likely to screw you up emotionally and psychologically for years to come.

Also, what about people who are not considered a psychotherapist? How would this impact groups like Courage, which are run by chaplains who are usually priests, or individuals who go to priests for spiritual direction and seek to repress their sexual orientation?

And in 865 D, they need to add that sexual orientation change therapy does NOT include treatments for sexual addiction, as people of ALL sexual orientations sometimes can and do struggle with sexual addiction. However they need to then define sexual addiction so that it is clear what is addiction and what is normal, healthy sexual expression. I say this because Courage uses the 12 steps, like AA, to treat homosexuality like a sexual addiction and I am sure there are others using the same approach, and while we don't want to stop people who need treatment for legitimate sexual addiction from getting that treatment, we might want to stop people from using treatments for sexual addiction as a way to treat sexual orientation.

Religious freedom does not extend to causing direct harm to others. The only reason that 'Gay panic defense' exists is because it is unconstitutional to claim religious freedom when it comes to murder, rape, and assult.

These reperative therapies are continuing to be exposed as harmful, and therefore, it is well within the right of our goverment to protect the citizens from it.

Religious freedom only constitutionally means that in the sphere of a citizens life, they can practice their religion. goverment can only interfer if in the practice of said religion, criminal acts are commited. those cannot be protected by freedom of religion.

We should start a ex-fundementalist christian therapy movement. It would be a group of professional therapist who help fundementalist protestants, cult members, and vaticanist (not to be confused with actually catholic people, who tend to be far more intellegent), and help them break their unnatural and unholy obsession with hatred, greed, and religious facisem.

it would be devoted to providing a framework of bible passages from Christ that talk about compassion, humanity, humility, and giving being the foundation of God's will, and deprogram people from listening to false prophets like benidict, robertson, grahmn, whoever took falwells place, and other charlitans who shit on the bible, and shit on everyone who actually listens to what christ actually says.

within 2 seconds, the right wing will demonize it, and we will point out that our therapies do not have suicide rates.
