I actually don't think this particular claim is all that ridiculous. Same-sex marriage is, at its core, the radical affirmation that love should be the primary factor in what determines a marriage. Not history, not tradition, not gender roles: love. And that absolutely opens the door to polygamous marriage. Polyamory is a thing. People can be in love with, and in relationships with, more than one person. It would be much harder to implement than same-sex marriage (which itself requires more than a little changes to both paperwork and databases--there's actually an interesting article somewhere on the interwebz about the difficulty of updating databases to allow same-sex marriage), but it would be doable.

the issue with polgyamy is that it has a history of being fueled by or leading to abuse of human rights. FLDS is just a more modern american example of it.

Because of that, people are going to be mistrustful of it.

Monogamous marriage also has that tradition. Spousal rape was legal in some parts of the country into the 90s.

The slippery slope argument is a sad vestige of our "old" culture, the one that opposed Loving v. Virginia. After all, if interracial couples can marry, that obviously leads to polygamy, right? Sometimes I'm ashamed at my country and how it can allow this to go on.

Let there be polygamy then. I don't agree with it, but liberty is not about making all that you disagree with illegal. Thats called tyranny, and the tyranny of all against one is no more justified or moral than the tyranny of one against all.

Yea because the number of polygamous marriages has increased dramatically since the leglization of same-sex adoption.
Just like my country is now alll for polygamous marriage since we legalised ssm 10 years ago. O wait it isn't.

Edit. I'm not opposed to polygamous marriage any way, but this is fallacious argument whether you're for it or against it.
