  5. I don't feel like dipping my toes in the political waters so let me just say that it sounds like this woman is a complete and total idiot.

That's one less homophobe in politics, so as Mogget said, good riddance.

Not everyone that has a problem or that is against gay marriage is a homophobe...we need to realize that...and you are already losing the argument when you assume such.

As far as "good riddance"...I don't know anything about her, but it said she has been an active Democrat for 20 years, so take it for what it's worth.

When local activists do something it means nothing in the grand scheme of things...I mean do you honestly think what one leader in East Jesus County in whatever state is going to matter?

    No.

But it does mean one more vote for the good guys

Big surprise. Many democrats aren't social anti-authoritarians anyway...

Yes, yes they are. Opposition to same-sex marriage makes you a homophobe.

I agree with this. To oppose same-sex marriage is to recognize that the lack of it directly harms queer folks and not to care one single bit about how they feel.

Well actually there are arguements out there that defend the idea of withholding marriage rights for samesex couples (that almost always include other types of couples as well) that aren't based on any underlying homophobia or dislike for gay people but rather promoting procreation. But they are rare and should rightly be ignored considering the masses of anti-gay marriage people that exist purely because of homophobia. Generally the arguements come from a certain belief about the "purpose" of marriage though. That purpose is subjective and can be argued about of course.

    They are:
You don't ahve be afraid of homosexuality to be a homophobe, you just have to be irrationally opposed to it.
And I've yet to hear a single rational argument against homosexuality or ssm.
Certainly hiding behind religion isn't a rational aversion.

    ---------- Post added 25th May 2012 at 09:35 AM ----------

There is not a single rational argument against homosexuality nor ssm, feel free to present one if you think there is.
As you said yourself, procreation isn't an argument against homosexuality or ssm specifically. In fact it isn't an argument at all since marriage doesn't require procreation or the ability to do so.

I think you'll find that most people who use the procreation argument also use this as cover for their homophobia.

Which is why procreation isn't a valid argument.

I agree with Linthras' statements on this matter. But I also agree with RedState, you don't have to be homophobic to be against gays in general.

Unless you keep it to yourself, I cannot see how you can rationally and publicly oppose homosexuality or LGBT people.

    Ditto :smilewave

The procreation reason is a cover for their dislike of gay people. It's just trying to distract from what's really at the core of their opposition to equality, which is they think gay people are less than they are and they don't want them in the marriage club because they think it degrades their marriage. They won't admit that so they use the baby makin' cover.

Not only is it a cover, but it's a half-assed one at that. Most of them would never object to the marriage of infertile couples or couples who do not wish to have children.
