When you learn the founding history of the nation of islam, you learn one thing: the whole movement started because radical black leaders did not like the idea of black men asorbing into what they viewed as 'white culture'. They choose to go outside of america to look for a alternative, and adopted what they percieved to be islamic culture (though malcom X famously rediculed his involvement in the formation of the nation of islam once he did a pilgramige to mecca, and found a deeper connection to the idea of faith, instead of the idea of rejecting what he viewed as white culture.)

Belive what you will about the muslim face, Nation of Islam remains, for the most part, distinctly seperate from the actual religion.
