I still can't understand why most strict religious people are like that. I also suspect that these people don't want to be open-minded becaues it's just too much work so they think they can justify it by saying "But it's in the bible, FFS!"

This is a political movement, not a religious movement. These bishops are politicians, not people of sprituality or faith. their faith is their belief that everyone else is lesser than they are.
