Homophobic comments everywhere. It's kind of funny to read them. xD

Obviously they can't do it worldwide. Sitting down and talking with people from Uganda, Iran or North Sudan won't exactly be pleasant.

Well Iran has straight up death penalty for homosexuality, no question.

Malaysia ranges from fines to whippings to prison, but not death.

No idea how each one is enforced, though. Apparently Iran's gay scene isn't that bad, if you minus the whole "government will kill you if you find out" thing.

The severity of punishment doesn't say anything about the viability of legalisation, really. That has more to do with popular opinion and pressure placed on the government. Malaysia has a bit more open advocacy due to its problems with HIV and the efforts to quell the epidemic there, but of course they have some pretty draconian laws in place, and most of the population there sees anything but heterosexuality in marriage as deviant and immoral (a paradigm that had existed already, but which some measures in preventing HIV have diffused as well). Of course, we all know about Iran. It's a tough call, really; they're both pretty dire.

Worldwide marriage equality? Definately not in our lifetimes. It's nice to think about that, though. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I can see the number of countries with it getting up into the 80's or 90's, though.

The reason i made the comment in the first place is the population of Iran - It's only an inkling really, but you must remember the average age in Iran is much younger than that of most western countries, and what i have read from Iranians and heard from some persian friends is that for the most part, people see the regime for what it is. I have high hopes for Iran, i can see them changing their ways for the better before Malaysia

This is good I think, some smart dude said "The next great colonizer and super power will either be China, or Google" so if google does turn the world into its country, 'least we can all get married :3

Constant civil unrest. Check. History of violating human rights. Check. Religious oppression and fanaticism. Check. History of genocide. Check. 3 countries that the world wouldn't really miss.
