Elected officials have urged Chick-fil-A to stay out of their cities, the Jim Henson Company has severed ties, and gay rights groups are organizing national protests against the fried chicken chain. But at the Chick-fil-A where Andrew works in northern Alabama, business has been booming over the past few weeks.

On Wednesday -- dubbed "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" by former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee -- lines are stretching out the front door and the parking lot is packed with customers coming out to support company chief executive Dan Cathy, who recently came out against same-sex marriage with statements that have polarized lovers of the fast-food chain.

to bring a hostile work environment lawsuit, the harassment typically has to be due to the harassed person's membership in a legally protected class - race, gender, religion, for example. sexual orientation is not protected under federal law, so if it is protected at all, it would have to be under state law. i would wager that in the states where chick-fil-a is most popular, the state discrimination laws do not protect LGBT people. so . . . likely no grounds for a hostile work environment lawsuit, unfortunately.

Personally if I were that Gabriel guy and someone said that to me I'd just say to them, "well it's great you support the company, but I'm gay and still employed here so go ahead and support it, just know it still employs gays like me." Personally I don't know why they stay there...I wouldn't even in this economy. But hey, I'm not them, so I guess it's their own decision...perhaps they can't afford to leave, or they love their store itself...it's hard to say. I'd support them but never the company itself.

With so many companies supporting gay rights these days I feel sorry for evangelicals who must be finding it harder and harder to shop ;-)! My real concern is that Mike Huckabee is promoting an appreciation day for food filled with grease, salt and sugar, but hey, if he wants the liberals and the gays to be better looking and live longer, that's fine by me!

No one really stopped talking about the reasons why today was as busy as it was. The people I work alongside kept going on and on about how powerful it was to be part of such a righteous movement, and how encouraged they were to know that there were so many people who agree with Dan Cathy. They went on at great length about how it was wrong not just for gays to marry, but to exist. One kid, age 19, said “I hope the gays go hungry.”

Classy. I don't think I've ever even wished a sprained ankle on anyone. But people like that can go ahead and keep on saying that kind of crap. More and more people are seeing what's really at the core of anti-gay people because of it.

That's kind of the way I'm trying to look at it. The brands that are staples of everyday life now support equality. I've never even heard of Chik-fil-A before this mess.

This Chick-Fil-A crap is getting out of hand, and honestly, its pathetic to think that these 'straight Christian' people or whatever you want to call them have these thought processes, and rush to the aid of a fast food joint because its founder/president/whatever opposes gays.

Here's a thought I wish I could share with all of these people.

"When you go to a restaurant, your food is being prepared by gays, and served by gays. Your hair is cut by gays. Your lives are being saved by gay doctors, paramedics and nurses. Your oral exams are being performed by gay dentists. They are your beloved actors and athletes. Gays! Your boss is a gay. That guy at the gym that lifts more than you, and gets checked out by all the girls is a gay. Gay! That hot chick that just snubbed you on the street, is a big old lesbo that doesn't want you. Those studs you see in your porn, wrecking those chicks you fantasize about are crossover stars. They have sex with guys too. Gay! That guy standing beside you at the urinal. Gay!

When you stay in a hotel room, you just might be laying in a bed that two guys fucked in, or filmed gay jerk off porn in. All around you, in your city, neighborhoods, apartment complexes, and your safe little gated communities, gays are getting together and shagging each other in the butt. I definitely agree that Dan Cathy is a moron. But it's kind of disheartening that all of Christianity is getting lumped in with his stupidity. I'm a Christian and see no problem with gay marriage or homosexuality in general (obviously). I even credit my conversion to Catholicism as giving me the courage to finally come out. We need to be able to see the difference between a faith and what a moron uses a faith to espouse.

(But of course I will never go to Chick-Fil-A again...)
