The appointment of Sal Cordileone, an architect of anti-gay Proposition H8, as Archbishop of San Francisco, a gay capital of America, was nothing short of a declaration of war by Pope Benedict upon the LGBTQ community. I don't know why Catholics continue to hold out hope that that church is ever going to accept them. They don't want you.

While I do agree that I wouldnt be excited to attribute myself attentively to any specific "Church", I dont think that belief in the religion, necessarily means belief in the church. My beliefs are essentially Christian. Would any Christians hate against homosexuals effect my beliefs, no.

Just because my favorite color is green doesnt mean that I have to agree with everyone else who loves it. Which is why I dont understand when people put any blame on religion. Religion gave birth to the Church, not the other way around. Religion is a belief. The Church is entity.

if you self identify as catholic, you're a catholic

if you self identify as christian, you're a christian

They're similar but still different religions. Same as how Buddhism is different from Catholicism, Hinduism is different from Judaism, etc.

I don't know all the details (I'm not that religious myself), but the way I understand it is that Catholicism is a subset of Christianity.

Mormonism purports to be a subset of christianity also, but you could well be comparing chalk and cheese.

You're right BudderMC. Catholicism is a denomination of Christianity. Last time I checked it was the largest denomination. Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox are the main denominations and it further breaks down into smaller groups from there

Being the largest denomination doesn't make it any less of a noxious cult, imo. Its church is power hungry, self-aggrandised, corrupt, out of touch, ridiculously rich in direct contradiction of its supposed scripture, canonises saints to whom you can pray, also in direct contradiction of its supposed scripture, enforces extra-biblical dogma of various kinds for various reasons, many of which are rooted in self-interest and power consolidation...

    I could go on.
