The French government will present legislation on the legalization of gay marriage by the end of October, the office of Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault said Wednesday.

A spokeswoman for Ayrault confirmed to dpa that a bill on "marriage for all," which would change the definition of marriage in the civil code from the union of "a man and a woman" to the union of "two people," would be presented at a cabinet meeting on October 31...

It really surprises me that a country which is so friendly with left-wing politics it almost continuously has members of the Communist Party being active elected officials has not actually passed same-sex marriage yet..
