Really good article about a loophole in Facebook privacy that can potentially "out" someone to all their Facebook friends.

    Forewarned is forearmed.

One would guess that the FB group is not set to private?

Just shows that no matter how careful you are with what you post/how you set up your account, you can't force others to use it correctly. Same goes for organisations/groups who accidentally send out emails with all the member's email addresses in the open rather than using a :bcc list :bang:

  4. Shows how much risk you can take when you use the internet
Even on websites that try to be secure.

Facebook makes no effort whatsoever to be secure.

Solution: Don't get a facebook! Even if your straight. It's a waist of time personally.

Clearly what this article has highlighted is that people shouldn't join choir groups.

This is why I'm glad that my campus pride group's facebook is a closed group. You would think that they would've made the queer chorus a closed group as well...

My campus's LGBT group is a secret group, thank God. But when I got added I didn't know that and had a panic attack thinking that something like this would happen to me. Facebook really needs to let you approve it when people add you to groups.

  10. Why do I get a feeling people are going to be using this as a quick excuse to Bash facebook?

I personally love and use face-book and I'm outer of the closet then a Jumbo Jet.

    This.
You mean those lamebook screen shots of people doing things their bosses/gf/bf/parents/grandparents aren't enough already?

Since -when- are people so freely taking picture of their friends and tag them embarrassingly is okay? :bang:

thankfully i don't have friends like that

I think there are other reasons to bash FB already

what struck me the most about that article is how horribly the poor girl's father reacted. ... and yeah, FB needs to make it so you can approve both other people's photos of you and if friends add you to a group.

You can already set it where you have to approve being tagged in a photo or post, but you can't approve or deny being added to a group.

That is why I don't have a FB because the security/privacy is awful.

Or where people have added comments to posts on your wall - which makes the whole thing a complete illusion - I've set mine to require approval of everything I can but about 90% of stuff on my time-line just appears :frowning2: and the photo tagging stuff is next to usless when various friend groups include mutual friends.

I had the same thing happen to me. I joined a lgbt group in college and they added me to a group without my knowledge and I freaked out because I did not want to be outed to my anti gay roommates. I think they were kind of turned off by me staying in the closet but I really did not want to get beat up or anything.

This seems like the best solution. And the most sensible way of handling situations like these.
