Skimmed article and jumped to comment section (it's a bad habit, I know)

and someone talked about republican party relying on religious baby boomer generations to gather votes? heh. There's something about American history and culture that got lost in my head...

I mean, it's kind of obvious that in every generation, the newer generation takes over with new ideas...

they dont call the republican party 'the party of the status quo' for nothing. They have not even caught up to the civil rights act of 1964, and it will be another 40 years before they abandon islamphobia by catching up to the first ammendment AT LAST!

right wing conservatives christians cling to a time that never existed by superimposing their false values into the lives of people who live in the reality that actually exists.

It is funny, because they scream 'SOCIALISEM!!!!' at the top of their lungs, but by their definition of the word (which is not the real one), jesus was the greatest, most outspoken socialist in the world.

If churches enjoy a less prominent position in American society, I wouldn't exactly complain.

This is not surprising to me. Churches push people out that do not share the same exact beliefs. This makes people not want to attend church anymore. Also, people see how some churches do not practice what the preach. (Such as love one another or love thy neighbor.)

I know that at my old church, they said that people were leaving churches because the end was near. It's too bad that they can't see that people are leaving the church because they are pushing them out. The church is creating their own end.

I won't either. This might make the church take a good hard look at themselves and see their shortfalls. In my eyes, a church should not judge people. They should leave the judging to a higher power.

That level of denial is... just... frightening.

my country new zealand has seen a massive growth in support for gay rights thanks to fundamentalists.after one rally by destiny church against civil unions (all dressed in black shirts they missed the fascist link) support for civil union went from 40% to 60%. a newly formed conservative party is helping the gay movement even more. after its leader said christians would start moving to Australia if we allow gay marriage.i was reading funny comments from a libertarian website.one guy said hes gonna get sprayed with cum role around in pink feathers and parade past every church.a month ago when a principle of a catholic school had a homophobic rant against gay marriage .students began a rainbow campaign.

A lot of churches are having that effect on people especially with the election coming up and churches speaking out against gay marriage like my catholic church is doing every week in their bulletin. It is a bad thing and wish more pro gay churches were gaining the spotlight instead of these very homophobic churches who are pushing people out rather than bringing people in. It is is personally a very sad thing.

I KNOW RIGHT? I have never heard anything in my Catholic church before in my life about gay marriage.

Election time, now they speak up.

SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. Both ends of that need to abide, gay marriage is not going to invade church, if they don't like it, then DON'T GET MARRIED TO THE SAME SEX AND DON'T WED THEM.

    Psh.

Same Here. I never heard anything about gay marriage in my own church until this year. Every sunday he reminds us of how important voting against gay marriage is.
