    Yes, the U.S. Government should definitely emulate radical Middle East governments and put gays to death. In fact, put women to death for going out in public, or wanting a job or education as well!

    Westboro would be right at home in, say, Iran. Save for the whole Christian-Islam difference.

    The Westboro Baptist Church has always had this position. Basically, they believe that America is doomed because homosexuality isn't a capital crime, and that abortion is not treated as murder.

    WBC has absolutely no political capital. None. Everyone, and I mean everyone, hates them. Until they stop being a nonviolent movement and decide to kill gay people themselves I'm not gonna worry.

    Correct, other Evangelical right-wing homophobes only hate Westboro because they give their whole movement a bad name among the population, since they say publicly what most Evangelical hatemongers like Tony Perkins only think. It's poor politics.

    Protesting soldiers' funerals is another big no-no among the military-worshiping conservatives. But most of them don't have a problem with the actual "God Hates Fags" side of it; they're just embarrassed to have their gay-bashing cause damaged by Phelps' own attention-whoring antics.

    If Westboro hadn't targeted the military, and simply kept their protests to the funerals of gay people killed in hate crimes, they would probably enjoy wide popular support, especially in the Bible Belt. Hate sells; just look at Chick-Fil-A.
