Apparently, True the Vote thought it would be a good idea to post an ad supporting the voter ID law in Virginia. Everyone has the right to their own opinion and to express it, but not this way.

Not only does this expose that this law is really partially about revoking transgender people's right to vote, it also implies that transgender people are fraudulent. Great message, True the Vote. Go burn in hell.

This is a huge concern, and it needs to be addressed. I'm rather saddened by the comments I read on a thread here a few weeks ago or something where some users thought that the disenfranchisement of transgender people wouldn't happen or that it wasn't a goal of this kind of legislation.

WOW. That's just sad. It also implies that they're all just fraudsters! That's sick.

You can already hear the arugment.

"Well, it isnt depicting a transgender individual. Rather a man who is dressing up like a women simply to commit voter fraud."

Voter fraud isnt even slightly valid enough to put this much heat into it. It is only being pushed as political tactics. People are disgusting.

in all honesty, that's exactly what i would have thought it was. the person in the dress looks vaguely like the photo on the ID but clearly is not the same person (whereas if it were meant to depict a trans person, the photo and person would match because it would be the same person). hence, i took it as a man dressing up to vote as the woman on the ID. if i hadn't seen the article presented in this context, i would not have made any connection to trans people at all.

We still have the same problems concerning ID & trans people not matching their ID in Canada. Technically, it's illegal for me to fly on an airplane in Canada stil...

This ID shit needs to get figured out quick, bc trans people are rapidly becoming screwed bc of it...

I'm surprised. I found it to be obvious.

You know, the law isn't to prevent trans people from voting. (Though yes, I do understand why people are mad). It's meant to prevent people from dressing up as someone and voting for them.

just as i found it to be obvious that it WASN'T, since the photo on the ID and the person in the dress are clearly not the same person.

True the Vote is a ridiculous white supremacist organization that failed in its goal of stealing the election. Hopefully they will just fade away now.

I can see both sides of this, I wouldn't have thought right away it was an attack on trans-people but I think it could be pretty bad for trans people. I have an ID and I haven't changed my name officially yet which is when I'm gonna get my ID changed. I've had people do a lot of looking back and forth, (regardless of if I present male or female) when I use my ID or sometimes a debit card with my picture on it. I've even had comments about how different I look as compared to my ID picture.

So regardless of intent I think it's potentially a pretty harmful add for at least some trans people.

:roflmao: What an epic fail for getting the right message across!

  19. I agree with this. While the ad could have gotten the same message across using two cis men or two cis women, speaking as a trans person, I don't find think it's meant to be offensive to us. Yes, trans people are often accused of being fraudulent voters, but I don't think it's relevant to this ad.

I dont see anything that is transphobic. I just see a goofy cartoon about voter fraud. Honestly, that's all.
