I thought homophobic remarks was how you secured a promotion in Fox News.

I think the only reason that she got suspended was because there was a ton of outrage in the community.

There's a difference though between FOX News' general right-wing nature and making straight-up homophobic remarks like calling another woman in the public eye an "angry young man". That's just harassment and Tricia Macke should be punished appropriately for it.

My guess is her apology was utterly insincere. The woman's picture makes her look like a total phony to me, and my guess is her "strong belief in equality" is about as authentic as her hair color.

I also think that it's the same "strong belief in equality" that Fox News in general has.

I am shocked that they actually suspended her at all, considering what they let slide on a regular basis. I f*cking love Maddow, for the record. One of my friends, this crazy liberal in his mid 70s, has a fantasy of Rachel Maddow showing up on his doorstep with a bottle of scotch and then of them talking politics and making sweet love all night.

He isn't at all homophobic, but he has said wistfully, over the several times he has drunkenly related this story to me, "I just wish she weren't a lesbian, 'cause I love her..."

    Yeah, he's awesome.

I don't think it's the huge deal people are making it out to be, and I also don't think FOX really cares at all about it. They're only making her apologize and giving her a wrist-slap to save face with the community members who are outraged over it and thus salvage some of their viewer ratings, I'd bet xP.

While it definitely is Tricia Macke's right as an American to freely speak like this, she was stupid for doing it, and the community outcry against her is fully deserved. When you're a public figure the way she is, you should expect that the statements you make on public social networking sites aren't going to be so private =P. Actions have consequences, and if Ms. Macke were thinking more clearly, she'd have realized sooner that this wasn't a bright idea.

This. I don't get it either.

Edit: Oh, I guess it was because Maddow is a lesbian woman, not a man... Makes sense now...

Just a stupid comment from an ignorant person. Really though we shouldn't be outraged. Have you ever expected anything less than those kinds of comments from Fox News?

You know ... people do have freedom of speech in this country. I think that instead of tossing around more labels like "she's a homophobe" we should instead address what she said in a more constructive way. Pulling out the torches and pitchforks only lowers us to her level. The fact that she is pressured to apologize by LGBT constituents and her employer is possibly an infringement on her right to speak freely, and also the apology simply ends up coming across as contrived and disingenuous. If she is actually sorry, she wouldn't have ever made the remark to begin with.

Still, I think that "homophobe" is, in many cases, a superfluous label. We should just stick to what she is: a prejudiced fool, who can't think before she speaks. I mean how stupid does someone have to be? Facebook is public, moron, and in case you have been living under a rock the last 60 years, making prejudiced statements against minorities doesn't fly well anymore. Stupid bitch ...

    Rant over
