Please do read and sign this to support those who need, but can't afford, surgeries and some types of hormone treatments to end their dysphoria for good!
And tell you friends outside of EC about this if you can...President Obama must reply to any petition that makes at least 25,000 signatures.
You can't be 13 and sign, but you can still urge others to sign.
    Thank you.

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:

Provide financial coverage for sex reassignment surgeries for transgender Americans.
We the people, have recognized that the current healthcare coverage does not cover sex reassignment surgeries and some hormonal treatment. I am 18 years old and a transgender male. What we live with everyday is a psychological as well as a very real medical condition. We are born basically in the wrong body. However, the costs make help seem almost unreachable for most. As Americans, we deserve the same equality as those who have coverage for depression, various surgeries, and other medical expenses. What we are asking is both a emotional AND physical pain that we are forced to live with everyday of our lives due to cost. We need financial coverage and some help to get to the place that as Americans, every citizen deserves to be.

    Thanks guys!

By the way, I finally went to a councilor. On campus, my therapy should be paid for by my insurance. I asked for a GID specialist, but I am told all councilors are women. Gee if she asks stuff about um, you know, that will be really hard to talk to a girl about.

If I get to start T, I could graduate as a man and have my name on my diploma the way it will be in the future. If Obama supports allowing gay men to be able to serve in our military, then hopefully his health care plan can be made to cover medical expenses for transitioning too, even if we have co-pays.

Estrogen is about $5 a bottle cuz of a vast supply made for old women, but testosterone aint cheap...about $50 if I remmy. YIKES! And shots can be every 2 weeks. That is a lot of money if insurance won't pay. This is one reason so many are not transitioned...they are not wealthy.

NOW, who else will sign the petition? Transgender rights supporters please pass it on!

Yes!! Now it says we got: 3,458...keep going!

    Signed.

I pay about fifty a month for my hormones/blockers and I know some women who pay even more than that so this bill would be a big help for transwomen too.

I called my health my health insurance yesterday just to see if I could find out why they don't cover surgeries relating to GID and they were nice but they didn't even have an answer. Just kept saying, "well it's an exclusion."

And...there ya go! No reason we can't include, we are just an insurance company who wants to not cover as much as we can for profit, as long as the LAWS allow. Remmy how women who nearly died, and got horrible scaring mastectomies were originally denied not only breast implants, but any kind of reconstruction surgery? It was excluded cuz: it is not medically necessary, it is cosmetic. Well, after enough suicides, and people complaining, now it is not only mandatory, everybody thinks it is not about "being pretty"...it is about looking in the mirror and seeing normal not a "freak" nobody can love. Sound a bit familiar?

I wish I had known about hormone blockers, but I am sure my mom, even if she had somehow agreed, could not afford it, we were very poor. Should only the rich be allowed to transition? Or even better, should only the rich have the best access to treatment and end up looking normal, while poor people have inferior jobs done? We gotta be sure of equality.
