I just ran into this documentary and it had be in tears by the end of it. Its not a side that many of us ever learn, but I think it something that all of us should care about and do something about. I have no idea about it because, again, its not something that is commonly talked about, so if anyone has any resources/information I can check out I would greatly appreciate it. Here is a trailer to the documentary which touches on LGBTQ people having to go back into the closet since they are scared for their lives. Truly saddening since these are the people that brought us where we are today. We pretty much owe our lives to a lot of these people.
It really does suck.. There was a story here in NZ about both Lesbian- and Gay-only retirement homes being developed. Why they aren't unisex I don't know. Gay Retirement Village On Cards In Auckland | Stuff.co.nz I don't know if that's really a solution though.
Wow what a great documentary! It's so touching and sad though yet it's a reality. We definitely have no idea the hardships these people faced in an era where homosexuality was so forbidden. Thanks for posting this! I just finished watching it.
oh i saw that long time ago. yeah a nursing home is not safe for any old person. who will support your claims of abuse, or defend your rights? i seen a woman not talk, stare out window or sleep...she figures why live. it is a prison in many cases, no right to leave for some. the workers don't love you, they are overworked and underpaid. they background check workers NOT RESIDENTS, so some get raped...yeah...a released con goes where when he's old? so also for a gay couple, you think there are gay wards? they won't even likely let a straight couple "consummate"....peeps ignorant assume you wrinkly you are asexual.
