This same-sex marriage controversy has been going on in the shadows for a while now. The bill has also changed quite a lot during this time. First reading has already taken place, with no debate. Second reading will involve major debate, and vote. Third reading will also take place at report stages. First major debate and vote scheduled: 5th February

We have civil partnerships. Civil partnerships have the same legal rights as marriage, but not the same recognition. Even if this bill were to pass, it would be illegal to get married in a church of England or Whales.
Canada was the first of the old colonies to legalize same sex marriages like 8 years ago. Jus' sayinnnnn'. Get with the times, you lower house wankers!
at least that is something, then all we need is an actual ability to marry i don't see why we shouldn't get the same rites as married people have. Didn't the marriage bill try to get passed last year? i cant remember
This will be the first time the bill is going through a vote, and major debate. If the bill passes, will be law (estimated 2014). From polls and other sources, I would confidently say it will pass.

ah calm your chaps there people, it'll get through with the whips, it'll get through with a free vote and theres nothing the House of Lords can do to stop it, only delay it and they could be guillotined by the speaker if it looks like they will. Only obstacles after that would be judicial review, which wouldn't work since it isn't a human rights case, or the queen not signing it and I don't think she would risk the monarchy on that.
Uh, actually, Massachusetts colony was the first British colony to legalize same sex marriage :icon_wink
MUST REMEMBER FEBUARY 5TH (It will be my first vote after turning 18 since I didn't vote in that police commisioner thing) naturally I will be voting in favour but I don't really support marriage
I don't think individual people get to vote on feb 5th, it will just be elected officials (or at least I'd have thought that). However if I'm truly wrong then please let me know so I can vote YES
