But, really, it's disappointing reading/hearing comments like this coming from professional athletes. I hope Brian Burke's "You Can Play" project continues to expand to other leagues.

Your teammate should not have to hide or alter who they are because you are a bigot. If you're upset with your teammate's orientation, that's your issue, not his.

    Yeah. Go Ravens.
He needs to be taught a lesson. I vote not put in the squad for the Superbowl...
It'll be interesting to see how the 49ers handle this.

"The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel."

If you were thinking it, and agreed with it enough to verbally express it, then yes, that is how you feel...:rolle:

Yeah, that comment made my eyes roll, too. That apology felt shallow.

Why do some of these athletes keep displaying such bigotry, only to cower in the corner afterwards?

Is there some lame game of conservative truth or dare in lockerrooms that we don't know about?

That apology has "They threatened to kick me out next season if I didn't make a public apology" written all over it.

But really, how can you play on a team for SAN FRANCISCO, then say something so massively homophobic? Are you asking to get glitterbombed? (Yes, I know that's a stereotype, but I couldn't resist. Lol)

More homophobia in the sports world. These comments continue to create the perception that gays aren't welcome in sports. I don't think I could name a single gay player in any of the major sports leagues.

Liking the Ravens in Pittsburgh is like bad mouthing God in heaven. What am I supposed to do!?

On a serious note, yeah that apology seemed contrived. At least he actually made some apology (for whatever reason) instead of continuing to blindly voice his bigotry.

Some come out after they retire, like Kwame Harris and John Amaechi.

  16. Raven comes out pro-gay, 49er come out as a homophobe, the irony here is that all things considered San Frisco is one of the most gay-approving cities in America.

the 49ers are actually gay friendly; they just have a douchy homophobe on the team who suffers from acute penis envy after god said "nope, he doesnt deserve a nice one" and the steroids that run rampent in professional sports shrivled his grapes into those two extra chewy, tiny raisens at the bottom of the box.

  18. Thanks Emberstone, I am not overly familiar with the 49ers (I do have something of an obsession with SF in general) and am glad to hear this was an individual and not indicative of the entire team.

His words weren't even fluent, let alone intelligent, so I'd say he's a stereotypical jock. No brains, no sensitivity. All there is to it.
