    More here.

And... this is why you should think about what you say to the media. The sad thing is that this is probably affirming her belief that "gays have no purpose in life".

Apparently the reason is concerns for her safety because of "aggressive" letters. I don't condone violence against people based on their beliefs (although I do advocate ridicule, ostracism, and economic sanctions), but I think that were the outrage against her a little more carefully directed, this would be a fine example of how we can make our society a better place: by making displaying discriminatory views unsafe.

I hope this leads to her outright dismissal, her hateful opinions are a danger to kids.

I agree. Her views are unethical in her profession. But then again, I would argue strenuously that she doesn't deserve to be employed in general.

    It's probably this story.

100% agreement here. Every time her opinion reaches a student's ears, another seed of bigotry is sown with the potential to grow. Teachers of all people should be the ones promoting the fact that it's okay to love.

Good. You should always think before making such comments.

I don't see a problem. Gays don't serve a purpose, darwinistically speaking. You could argue to curb population growth, but it's such a small minority that it doesn't have as large of an effect on population as say war. It's sad that there are students and parents so weak that they can't handle someone with opinions that antagonize their own.

Honestly, people are entitled to their opinion, no matter how much I disagree with it.

But when you're a teacher that students are supposed to go to for help and support, you have to throw your own feelings out the door. Telling her gay students they have no purpose in life is something that should have been grounds for termination, not suspension.

People can hold whatever personal beliefs they want. However, she is an employee of the school system where there is seperation of church and state. She cannot be making these statements at school and representing herself this way. Action should have been taken as soon as this came to the administrations attention. Could you say people of a certain religion, race etc "serve no purpose?" Absolutely not. So the same should apply in this situation. I really don't know much about the case, but gays can adopt children out of some terrible situations, isn't that a "purpose?" I would say gays can serve a very high purpose.

  14. Agreed, given that this is Indiana, she'll probably get away with it. And people wonder why America is behind in education.

If it were up to me, she'd be place in some stocks at the center of town, and she'd be pelted with ecoli infected produce.

At least this will follow her around for the rest of her life.
