Has anybody else been following this story? It's totally crazy. I feel so bad for the family of this man. Really, what were the chances of this happening to him?

    More here.

Also, they started to tear down the house today. I'm surprised that they even let a backhoe this close.

About sinkholes, I have been curious do they keep expanding or do they eventually stop?

But this is really sad.. I am terrified of sinkholes..

They keep expanding until the void in the rock is gone. They are saying that this sinkhole is 50 to 60 feet deep, so there is a chance that this could be a pretty big sinkhole. They have evacuated the people living next door.

I read this last night and I'm so glad I don't live in Florida. That's so scary.

I know that some holes can be patched up. There are some that are too big, so they just end up staying there forever.

Yeah, Florida has a ton of limestone. So, this makes the area pretty prone to sinkholes. Where this happened at is known as "sinkhole ally".

Yet another one of the hazards of living in Florida, which is essentially one humongous karst landscape. (Think of caverns and sinkholes.) More water, more dissolving of limestone, more weakening of cavern ceilings, more sinkholes.

  11. I feel bad for the guy, and I'm probably a bad person for this...but that's really funny.
