It's not really that strange. A few gay guys I know practically use each others Likes pages as templates. They all seem to like Rihanna, The Little Mermaid, and Desperate Housewives.

With the usual disclaimer that stereotypes are not bad for making generalizations about a large groups of people, but will probably make you an ass if you try that on a single individual.

Isn't this kinda like... pointing out the obvious? >_>

I don't know how to phrase this without being offensive, but the gay individuals that break their gender stereotypes (ergo men liking Desperate Housewives/Katy Perry etc etc) are the obvious ones to spot on average anyway, no?

Most people don't even suspect I'm homoromantic bisexual, and my facebook likes consists of 'heavy' music, horror films and fantasy fiction. So again, my likes don't indicate my sexuality at all.

It's like people trying to invent a system to figure out the sexuality of people like Alan Carr. There's no need for it really lol.

So ye... all this really does is play up to stereotypes and hope for the best.

Of course it's kind of silly. Advertisers on Facebook could use it to push ads on you based on your Likes without ever mentioning your sexuality though. Or if you do, they push certain ads on you that you may have no interest in. Then again, I'm guessing that for everyone like me who constantly tells Facebook to stop showing me certain ads (to no avail might I add), there's probably 5 or 6 more people who click every underwear ad shown to them.

I've had a facebook for years and I haven't 'liked' a single page. I wonder what that predicts about me.

I kind of hoped this would be epic and shocking - that they could predict your sexuality by liking completely random stuff (so he's into gardening AND oldtimers... that makes him a demisexual panromantic). But this is based on stereotypes.

What's the problem? If it's that big of a deal then you need to not like things. It would be like walking outside naked and being shocked when someone sees you.

That's pretty much an article published about common sense. Yes, liking "Jesus Christ" probably means you're Christian. Yes, guys with a large interest in musicals are probably gay. That seems like a fairly useless study. It'd be cool if someone could go in and analyze something different, like apps a person uses, and try to use those to predict sexuality and gender and the like.

It's like youtube or twitter or anything similar; networks, pages, videos, and anything else will attract 'like' things.

If you like fighting games, more fighter ads or pages will appear.
If you like watching watermelons getting sliced on youtube, maybe a video of honeydew or durian will show up in related.

so how come, for a year or so, all I got were Ads for bear orgies?

its is weird; I am listed on facebook as gay, and my status posts and likes include cardio and strength training, but facebook thinks I want to date someone 200 pounds heavier than me, and participate in hairy, sweaty group sex.

^hmmm, I don't even pay attention to ads. I wonder if I have had any bears ads.

    My likes are as follows:
    1. Rowing
    2. Paula Deen
    3. My school

    So gay, yo.

I thought there was going to be an app or something that could determine this. The article is stating the obvious...
