They won't be making the rulings tomorrow, that'll take some time. They're just hearing the oral arguments. They'll also have to read all the various briefs submitted.

Hmm... It would be cool to come out the day that prop 8 goes through - if it goes through. Definitely a tense few days, it's insane how backwards America is in some ways. Just out of curiosity, what the hell kind of arguments are they going to make in favor of DOMA? It's incredible how stupid and bigoted some people are...

No worries. There are also many enlightened/powerful people out there trying to make it happen.

The forces of equality are much stronger than those of bigotry and hate, which are getting weaker as we speak.

Honestly, you shouldn't get your hopes up. I think DOMA will be upheld and they will just kick the can down the road.

the only arguement that the right wing, homophobic forces are using is that 'marriage is only about procreation'. that wont settled with Justice Roberts, whose children are adopted, and it wont settled with Kennedy, who is smart/moral enough to recognize that procreation is not compulsory in marriage, and the state has never worked to force people to procreate.

The thing about DOMA is that it's patently unconstitutional. It violates the full faith and credit clause of the constitution by not recognizing a contract drawn up at a lower level of government, so it's essentially indefensible. Prop 8 takes rights that a group of people had away just because other people didn't like them, so it's likely to be struck down as well. Even if it isn't, California will overturn it in a voter referendum. (Just from talking to people here, it's obvious that so many people's opinions, including my parents', have changed in these five years that prop 8 would never pass again)

Yes indeed, and same sex marriage activists were out spent when the voters voted on Prop 8. At this time there are major corporations who would kick in tens of millions of dollars to fight against the bigots, and pass ssm.

We are at a different place in history now than we were even five years ago. The kids are more informed, and more connected, and many have gay friends that they like. The tell each other everything, and they see the phony religious right as a fraud after only money.

Yes and that would mean the appeal rulings would stand, gay marriages would start back up right away. Which would be fine enough.

It's been uplifting to see so many profile pictures changed among my straight friends to the equality symbol in honor of the fight for rights at the Supreme Court today and tomorrow. Some of their comments made me tear up a little. I am using this as an opportunity to make a list of friends who will be supportive of me when I come out. I think it definitely help me to overcome some of my anxiety about the process.

I'll be ok if Prop 8 remains invalidated and that is as far as they rule. I just don't think the justices are ready to tell all the states their constitutional bans are unconstitutional. I bet they wait a few more years for another lawsuit to make its way through the system before ruling in favor of gay marriage nationwide. I think DOMA will be struck down this year though.

Have to tell you, I'm pretty damn emotional about all this.

Watched the coverage on CNN & MSNBC while at the gym today. Of course no one knows the outcome.

For me, also, what the Boy Scouts do next month is a key big deal, too.

    I am hopeful.

I've been glued to C-SPAN ever since I got off work. Things are looking pretty encouraging; the bigots seem to be in the minority, and I have high hopes for the outcome of the Prop 8 case.

Can't wait to watch the DOMA discussion tomorrow.
