Yeah, cause the planet totally needs more children. And we totally need religion butting into our personal lives. And we totally don't need love in our lives. And we totally don't want to build a society based on loving unions between humans.

    oh.

He is an asshole to the make. I would also like to point out these lines in a wedding ceremony: "Groom, do you take this woman to be your wedded wife? Do you promise to love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health, remaining faithful to her as long as you both shall live?

Bride, do you take this man to be your wedded husband? Do you promise to love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health, remaining faithful to him as long as you both shall live?"

    Hint, Hint. LOVE.

    Asshole

He talks about how infertile couples can still marry because there's always a chance because they have the right parts. Well, sometimes that could only happen via a miracle, and if God can make a straight infertile couple have a baby I don't see why he couldn't do the same to a same-sex couple.

Evidently, Catholics think marriage is bad for priests, so they must stay "celibate." Catholics believe birth control is evil, so every couple is supposed to have a herd of 15 children to whom they need to render care. As well, Catholics follow a myriad of other outdated rules and rituals. I really don't take much of anything they have to say seriously; unfortunately, it is necessary to know what they're saying because they seem to have such an impact politically.

To be honest (Don't hate me for doing so), Marriage is ridiculous....I don't care much for marriage, Love doesn't need a piece of paper to be proven.

Marriage is first and foremost a public affirmation: it has all sorts of connotations of ownership and exclusivity.

Is it still relevant today? It seems strange to ask about an institution as old as marriage...but I'll ask the question anyway.

Yes. A piece of paper doesn't prove love more or less.

However "marriage" is a legal binding contract that is recognized by the government, and with this legal contract comes all of the benefits.

    Health Insurance
    Tax
Legal benefits if a partner passes away
    Immigration benefits

Just to name a few. This is a link that shows all the benefits of having a legal contract that is recognized by the government.

Rights and responsibilities of marriages in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So I'd say for those that want and need these benefits, it's very relevant.
