Even if they were against,if they votetd against the bill, and it passed they would have been punished under the new law...

I thought it was against international law to punish someone for something that wasn't illegal at the time they did it. Not that that would stop them I suppose.

Key international powers tend to garner more authority than those who set international law. :/

Ironically, the medieval Russian states were very tolerant of homosexuals. In fact, most foreign visitors to that area were shocked to see public displays of affection between two men or two women were very common.

    This is very sad.

It's also shows the danger of mixing church and state; I noted the law was supposed to be based on upholding the traditional values of the Russian Orthodox Church.

For a while, it looked like Russia was making progress...but Putin seems to have seized power, and is running the place almost like a mad dictator, especially given the outcome of that so-called vote.

Mainly, I feel bad for any friends I have met on the net living in Russia, and anyone else who has to deal with this crap.

Putin is a borderline dictator now, these levels of votes pretty much prove that. No democracy has 430 odd all in 1 direction. Its either a dictatorship or moving towards a theocracy with all the influence the Orthodox church has now

If you stand up to them you end up in a labour camp in the far East (pussy riot), its back to the gulags.

I think that is what would happen if UKIP got into the UK as well

  14. This is why we need to start handing out refugee status for LGBT related issues.

Yeah, I suppose the implied threat of "Shut up or we'll nuke you" makes things go down smoother.
