Livestream can be viewed on Youtube.

Texas Senate Livestream 83(1) - YouTube

Although right now they seem to be checking the rulebook (as I'm typing this). The past 10 minutes have been rather pathetic with the chairman completely clueless and contradicting himself.

How did you even get into this situation in the first place America.

It sounds like Texas should just kick out all of the crusty old white men and have Wendy Davis run the whole state on her own. It sounds like she'd sure as hell do a better job.

They voted anyway. They passed the law after midnight.

I love and hate living in Texas.

According to West : "The vote on SB5 is void. The constitutionality will be challenged. We weren't in session."

Also, Whitmire: The vote did not start until 12:02, after midnight. It's in the journal. Vote on SB5 doesn't count.

You have to understand something about Americans. And that's simply the fact that as much as we go nauseatingly on and on about freedom, we love nothing more than controlling other people.

They passed the bill at 12:02 AM CST, and because of Texas' law saying that legislative sessions end at 12:00 AM, it was actually an illegal vote. The vote won't stand up in court.

That's... that's... that's incredible. How does someone stand and talk continuously for so many hours without leaning on anything at all? And she's 50; she didn't do it for her own access to abortions, she did it for every other woman in the state.

    Good on her.

Most those politicians will probably lose their jobs. They broke the law by doing what they did. They didn't just vote AFTER midnight, they edited the timestamp ON LIVE TELEVISION to say it was before midnight.

    That's fraud.

Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky) spoke for 13 hours to block John Brennan's nomination as director of the CIA to get an answer from the justice department about use of drones to target non-combattant American citizens. And Strom Thurmond (not a Republican, though you'd have to think he'd fit right in nowadays) is a legend (in the most revolting way possible) for filibustering the Civil Rights Act for 24 hours.

    But well done, Wendy Davis.

I recall Rand Paul failed to reach 13 hours (but he was close at 12 hours 40 something I think).

Still, no eating, no bathroom, no leaning against anything for 13 hours is quite something. 24 hours for Storm though? I want Strom tested for drugs! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

    I was close enough! :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

That might be hard to do considering he died exactly 10 years ago today.
