LGBT News All participants in St Petersburg gay pride arrested for marching

Not shocking, sadly. However, it's this type of disobedience that started the LGBT Rights movement in the United States. A lot of the same stuff happened.

Those fines actually aren't that high. It would be nice if there was some group outside of Russia that could help raise money and then funnel that money to LGBT activists in the country. If they're all charged as individuals that's just around $9,500 to pay all their fines (for around 60 people).

 

Won't work. First, IIRC there are laws against foreign funding of Russian political groups and NGOs, and they will be enforced in this case. Second, these laws actually enjoy rather broad popular support, and you will be labelled a (at the very best) unwitting pawn in a CIA plot to destroy THE DREAM OF THE GLORIOUS RUSSIAN EMPIRE RISING FROM THE ASHES AND CHEAP SAUSAGE FOR EVERYONE with gay sex.

Ugh, St. Petersburg. Tremendously overrated, dirty, smelly, crime-infested city. I couldn't wait to get out of that shithole.

Moscow is so much nicer than St. Petersburg, and much more liberal, even though the federal government of Russia wants to expand its "homosexual propaganda" bans to it.
