    Dear members,

Following a few days of server-intensive maintenance work, it appears that a few members have continued experiencing issues when posting or editing posts and threads.

If you have experienced any of these issues, please post in this thread providing information on the following:

What you were trying to post:

    Where you tried posting it:
Is it happening in just a particular forum(s), or sitewide?

    What the error message said:
^ This does not need to be exact. Just, for example, whether it was a database/MySQL error, browser timeout error etc.
If you can provide a copy and paste of the error message, please do so.

How long you have been experiencing the error:

No worries if you can't remember all of this information. Please just post what you can remember.

In the event that you are experiencing problems with posting (and thus can't post a reply), please email this information to Martin[at]emptyclosets.com

We'll keep you updated as we go forward.

    Martin.

I have been trying to post a new thread in "LGBT Later in Life" but each time I get to a page that says "Database error." This has been happening for a few days now.

For the past two days, I will occasionally not be able to access the EC site at all. I will get a database error message on my screen.

Just had this message as I tried to read a post on physical and sexual health:

The database has encountered a problem.
    Please try the following:
Load the page again by clicking the Refresh button in your web browser.
Open the emptyclosets.com home page, then try to open another page.
Click the Back button to try another link.
The emptyclosets.com forum technical staff have been notified of the error, though you may contact them if the problem persists.

    We apologise for any inconvenience

    Hi peeps,

As indicated within the updated announcement, we're now back online after being down for a few hours for some in-depth maintenance.

It would be appreciated if you could all continue keeping a look out for any database errors that may still be affecting the site, particularly if you're one of the unfortunate few who have experienced issues within the last few days. If you've reported issues already, please feel free to try creating a 'test' thread etc to check whether your account is still being affected by the problem.

Please let us know asap if any of you encounter any problems!

    Thanks,

    Martin.

This usually happens when somebody has disabled their wall. So, it is unlikely that this is related to the database issues that we have been having. Usually with these errors, it will come up "database error" or "SQL error on line 31".

    ***UPDATE 2/24***

Our tech admins have run a deep, extended database repair that involves rebuilding all of the database tables and indexes and an in-depth integrity check. In their experience, this solves database issues in a very large percentage of cases.

It's really important that everyone reading this thread keep a close eye for any problems, and if some of y'all (particularly those who reported issues before) can try and replicate the issues we've previously seen, and report here whether you are still seeing them, that will help us figure out if we need to revert to an ancient backup.

    Thanks!

Can't see any avatars everywhere, including my own in my own profile, or pictures (every picture even the little icons), except here on this thread. Also my own pictures on profile seem to have vanished.

On other forums the pictures load normally. It's only happening here on EC.

Also I had the database error a couple of days ago. I'll try to post the details later.

Just an FYI, for me, all site images have vanished, and have been replaced by no image found symbols. This even includes user photo galleries, avitars, the EC logo at the top, and all the buttons.

I'm noticing this as well. For me though, I can see avatars, it's just the site images. My guess is that they are working on solving the problem and it is making the images disappear.

Is this why the forum looks weird? The tables are all misaligned and I've got those image icons too.

It probably is. I'm experiencing the same issue right now, so as soon as we get an update, we will update all of you

I'm not techy at all so I've no idea what I'm talking about but for me, the main forum index looks fine as normal but when I click on the sub forums, the list of threads is all fucked up/

That was my first thought, and has been confirmed because browsing around forums and my own profile, I can see now sometimes the avatars (check friendships requests, and the avatars are there). Also some recent threads like Montreal 67, and some user's avatars.

I'm sure it'll be up and running flawlessly again soon.

As they say in Germany please no panic at the titanic
