I didn't think that my location would be public and i'm really comfortable with my state level information being out here, is there anyway it could be changed to say just "U.S" or something more vague?

You can change your location by clicking 'My Settings' (located at the top strap alongside blogs, FAQ, Members List Calendar etc..... then selecting 'Edit Options' half way down the left blue column.
